Photograph of the Aerial Experiment Association's Aerodrome No. 3 "Loon" aircraft, piloted by John A. D. McCurdy, attempting to take off on Keuka Lake, New York, November 5, 1908. The aircraft did not get airborne.

Inscription: "Drome No. 3, Curtiss' June Bug, placed on pontoons and renamed the Loon, propelled over the water on Lake Keuka, near Hammondsport, N.Y., carrying Mr. Douglas McCurdy as Aviator, Nov. 30, 1908. The Loon did not rise into the air."

Caption from bulletin: "25. Drome No. 3, Curtiss' June Bug placed on pontoons and re-named 'The Loon', propelled over the water on Lake Keuka, near Hammondsport, N.Y., carrying Mr. Douglas McCurdy as Aviator, Nov. 30, 1908. 'The Loon' did not rise into the air."
