Description

Technical report titled "Notes on the Caproni 600 biplane," by S. E. Hutton, circa 1918. Typescript report detailing the construction of the Caproni Ca.44 (Military Ca.5, Ca.600) aircraft. The report describes the various groups and individuals working on the project and the requisite orders assigning them their duties; provides specifications for component dimensions, motors, and heating, lighting, ignition, fuel, and lubricating systems; and procedures for fuselage, "carlinga" (nacelle), plywood body, wing set, and tail surface assembly.

Includes 106 original photographs tipped in to the report (some loose) and 23 blueprints, illustrating various aspects of the aircraft and construction. Images feature detail shots of rigging, controls, cockpit, bomb racks, wheels; construction and fitting progress of fuselage, nacelle, landing gear, central section, wings, tails, propellers; work spaces, equipment, and supplies; views of the complete aircraft and testing, with workers in some shots. Also includes one group photograph of the crew in front of the aircraft, found loose inside the front cover.

Front soft cover has Hutton's name handwritten in bottom right corner, with a "property of" inscription on the inside front cover.
