[C.E. Roy U.S. Naval Aviation photograph album]
Title
Description
Photograph album containing 394 black-and-white photographs related to C. E. Roy's service with the U.S. Navy at Key West Naval Air Station, Florida, circa 1917-1918. The album is constructed from a U.S. Navy ledger book, into which Roy pasted photographs. The binding on the book is missing and most of the pages are loose. The inside front cover of the album includes a photo portrait of Roy accompanied by handwritten service history notes, along with "Rules of the Road at Sea." The section of pages at the end of the album are empty, but there is one final photograph on the inside back cover of a street in Key West.
Images feature: shots of Key West and area, including scenic views, notable buildings, aerial views, and monuments; aircraft including blimps, biplanes, float planes; fellow Navy servicemen and a few servicewomen ("Yeomanettes"); Navy facilities; photos of aerial cameras; views of Navy ships; events such as a Liberty Loan parade, baseball games, and Fourth of July celebrations; and assorted photos of family and friends.
The album also contains a few pieces of ephemera and other materials: pressed flowers and boutonnieres; correspondence from a Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) post; a receipt for Roy's mother's funeral costs; handwritten notes written on the occasion of Roy's birth; a leave pass; and a printed panoramic portrait of Navy men.
