Photograph of Amelia Earhart climbing out of her Lockheed Model 5C Vega aircraft after landing at Oakland Airport, California, January 12, 1935. Earhart became the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. Photograph has been hand-tinted to accentuate outlines and clarify background.

Inscription on verso: "Clambering out! At right, sky heroine climbs out of the trim monoplane that winged her safely through wind and fog to the Oakland Airport. She made the flight in a little over eighteen hours."
