Photograph of Amelia Earhart surrounded by people after landing at Oakland Airport, California, January 12, 1935. Earhart became the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. Photograph has been hand-tinted to accentuate outlines and clarify background.

Inscription on verso: "Air Saga Heroine! Wearied after her long vigil at the controls, Miss Earhart is shown surrounded by admirers in pictures at left and center. Note woman clutching at her sleeve in the center photograph."
