Typed caption on verso: "From F. J. Delear, Chance Vought Aircraft Division, United Aircraft Corporation, Stratford, Connecticut. Release at will. Shown in flight is the Chance Vought V-173, a full-sized, low-powered, light-weight flying 'model' of the Navy's new experimental fighter, the XF5U-1, of a radical flying-wing design. Developed from a type originally designed in 1933 by C. H. Zimmerman, Chance Vought consulting engineer, the XF5U-1 combines extremely low speeds with high top speeds and may eventually have a speed range of from 0 (hovering flight) to over 500 miles an hour. (eme--7/9/46)."
