Printed on verso: "USN 709872. 27 May 1957. A streamlined model of the Navy's inflatoplane, an inflatable rubber aircraft manufactured by Goodyear aircraft corporation for the Office of Naval Research, flies over Akron, Ohio in recent tests. The craft features an enclosed cockpit, one-piece wing and simplified controls. The new inflatoplane's wing, tail assembly and cockpit are made of Airmate (two walls of rubberized fabric connected by nylon threads). An airhose or household vacuum cleaner can be used to pump up the inflatoplane. The craft is made rigid with less air pressure than that required to inflate a tire on the family car. It is powered by a 44 horsepower Nelson engine. The 44 horsepower engine provides adequate power to give the inflatoplane the lift and speed it requires for an exciting flight over the countryside.
