Typed on verso: "Typical of the mpre [more] permanent AACS towers in China, this installation at Luliang, one of the first bases used by the famed 'Flying Tigers,' in their exploits which drove the Jap Oscars and Tojos from the China skies, controlled the flight and brought in safelt [safely] many US aircraft temporarily lost over China. The secondary purpose of this base in its operational heyday was its service to the Air Transport Command on its flight schedules over 'The Hump.' (Official USAAF Photo.)"
