The cap has a brown leather brim, a brown leather strap (running around the entire circumference of the hat) and "olive drab" exterior material. In addition, there are two gilt buttons and one screw back eagle emblem on the hat as well. This crush style of cap originated when aircrews would wear their service caps while flying. Over the top of the hat they would wear a head phone receiver set. Over time the stiff material would collapse, thus creating the first "crush" caps in the US Army Air Corps/Forces. "Circa World War II. Army Officer's crusher visor hat . . . Gabardine hat body with mohair hat band. Russet brown leather visor, chin strap, and back strap. Army Officer screw back eagle and gilt buttons" (Tonelli, p.49).
