Medal is attached to a red grosgrain ribbon with vertical rainbow stripes at each edge. On the front is a figure of Liberation standing full length with head turned and right foot resting on a war god’s helmet. In the right hand is the hilt of a broken sword and in the left, the broken blade. Across the lzower half of the medal is the inscription "World / War II" in raised lettering. The raised letters "TJ" (maker's mark) are at the bottom edge. On the reverse are the inscriptions "Freedom from Fear and Want" and "Freedom of Speech and Religion" in raised lettering, separated by a palm branch, all within a circle composed of the words "United States of America 1941-1945" also in raised lettering.
