It was established by the Boston and Maine Railroad and Maine Central Railroad and flew from Boston to Bangor via Portland, Maine. In 1939 BMA was certified by the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA) to become a scheduled airline. The airline changed its name to Northeast Airlines in 1940, which eventually merged into Delta Air Lines in 1972.
