He describes his wartime experiences as a fighter pilot, including his time in France with the 429th Fighter Squadron. Special focus on a combat mission in Germany on September 12, 1944 in which his squadron scored several aerial victories against a flight of Focke-Wulf Fw 190s.BiographyRobert C. Milliken was born on June 6, 1922 in Hanna, Wyoming. He joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942 and graduated from flight training the following year. Assigned to the 429th Fighter Squadron of the 474th Fighter Group, Milliken flew missions over France, Germany, and other areas of mainland Europe. After completing his official combat tour, he then served as an air-ground control officer in the Ninth Tactical Air Command and the Eighteenth Airborne Corps. Milliken left the military after World War II and pursued a career in business and hospital administration.
