In part two, he provides clarifying details regarding his wartime experiences and the combat missions discussed in the previous interview. Special focus on his participation in the Battle of the Philippine Sea on June 19, 1944 and on an attack against a Japanese warship.BiographyAlbert C. Slack was born on April 29, 1922 in Lufkin, Texas. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and graduated from flight training the following year. Assigned to Fighting Squadron 15 (VF-15), Slack served aboard the USS Hornet (CV-12) during its shakedown cruise and afterwards deployed aboard the USS Essex (CV-9). During his tour, Slack participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and flew missions over the Northern Marianas Islands, the Philippines, Formosa, and other areas of the Pacific Theater. He also served briefly with Fighting Squadron 152 (VF-152) while they were training in the States. Slack left the military after the war and pursued careers in the construction and retail lumber businesses.
