Typed caption glued to verso: "U.S. troops enter Acerno. American soldiers enter the wrecked square of Acerno, Italy, as German troops retreated northward. Acerno, 14 miles northeast of Salerno, was liberated by Allied forces during the early stages of their campaign on the Italian mainland. Serviced by New York to List H. 16242-FO. Approved by appropriate U.S. authority."
