Description

Photograph of an unidentified German soldier in a mess hall, circa 1914-1918. Cartoon illustrations are drawn on the wall above him. One depicts a German soldier riding an airship with the text "Auf nach London" ("Off to London") written on it. The other, captioned "Unser Luftschiffvater!" ("Our airship father!"), depicts a man on a bike in front of a building.

Inscription on album page: "German mess hall."

Part of the Wilbur D. Kennedy photograph album containing six hundred and five (605) black-and-white photographs, as well as a few pieces of ephemera, circa 1917-1919. The photos trace Kennedy's military career from his infantry training in the United States to his service in France during World War I and post-war service in Germany.
