Description

Photograph of a serviceman working on a captured Hannover CL.IIIa aircraft, France, circa 1918-1919. This captured German aircraft was shot down by Eddie Rickenbacker and Reed Chambers on October 2, 1918 and was repainted to commemorate its status as a trophy plane. Text painted on the fuselage reads: "Trophy of 1st Pursuit Group. Shot down by Capt. E. V. Rickenbacker & Lt. Reed Chambers, 94th Aero Squadron, Oct. 2nd, 1918."

Inscription: "France, 1918-19."
