Title

A twin-motored Caudron signaling the position of the infantry at the Battle of Verdun [Lithograph of painting by Lieutenant Henri Farré]

Description

Lithograph of a painting by Lieutenant Henri Farré featuring a Caudron biplane in flight, circa 1914-1918. Part of a series of eight lithographs depicting World War I aerial imagery.

Typed caption: "A twin-motored Caudron signaling the position of the infantry at the Battle of Verdun. The plane is at an altitude of about 3,000 feet. By means of flares the observer determines the exact line of the infantry, crouching in the trenches, and also, through the intense illumination, the changing situation of the attacking troops. He transmits by wireless the information to the artillery, by which it regulates its barrage fire. From a painting by Lieut. Henri Farré."
