Album Two from the Nancy Harkness Collection of World War I Photograph Albums, circa 1914-1919. The album contains 163 black-and-white photographs with handwritten captions of various scenes in Europe during World War I, circa 1914-1919. Images feature group and individual shots of American servicemen, including a visit by the Prince of Wales to Koblenz, members of the 94th Aero Squadron, a decoration ceremony at Koblenz, and female Red Cross nurses; American and German aerial reconnaissance photos; Aircraft such as Roland, Salmson, SPAD, Fokker, Caproni, Sopwith Camel, Hannover, German zeppelins, including views of markings and squadron insignia; battle scenes and aftermath, including artillery, ruined buildings and villages, dead soldiers and horses, numerous downed aircraft, and crash scenes; the arrival of the French in Trier (Germany); scenic views of Luxembourg, French towns, Koblenz, and Trier, including churches, rivers, government buildings, and Roman ruins; and one leaflet dropped by American aircraft to infantry notifying them of the markings on American aircraft. Identified locations include Trier, Berlin, Koblenz (Germany), Verdun, Metz, Nice, Reims, Mercy-le-Haut, Nancy (France), and Luxembourg.
