Medal, Commemorative/American Legion Post 501 to William P. Lear

Circular bronze colored commemorative medal. The front has the bust of Frank Hawks engraved in high relief with the text, "Leut. Commander Frank Hawks" above the image. The inscription on the back reads: "Born March 28, 1897, Marshalltown, Iowa. Prominent pilot, who established many records and advanced aviation by courageous and pioneering flights, August 3, 1938." Included with the object is a piece of foam core with text about the award. The foam core once housed the medal, which is now loose.
