Description

Postcard (reproduction) of people with the Wright Model EX "Vin Fiz" aircraft after its crash in Middletown, New York on September 18, 1911. This postcard was produced in 2011 for the 100th anniversary of Calbraith Perry Rodgers's transcontinental flight across the U.S. in the "Vin Fiz." Also includes a reproduction of the 25-cent "Vin Fiz" stamp and a special postmark.

Inscription on image: "Vin Fiz Flyer wrecked at Mtown / Sept 18, 1911."

Caption on verso: "Calbraith Perry Rodgers, inspired by a $50,000 prize posted by Wm. Randolph Hearst to complete a trans-continental flight in 30 days time, crashed for the first time in Middletown, NY on Sept. 18, 1911. He completed the flight on Nov. 5, 1911 without receiving any payment, crashing many more times. / 'I endure! I conquer!' Pictorial Postmark - Philip S. Dockter / Have a Grape Day!"
