[American prisoners in Germany]

Photograph of American prisoners of war being escorted by German soldiers down a dirt road in Germany, April 20, 1918. Some prisoners do not have shoes and are walking in socks or with bags wrapped around their feet. A sign by the road reads: "Gasgefahrzone! Maske geschultert bei Gasbereits [illegible] auf brust."

Inscription on photo: "20-4-1918 Sef. Amerikaner."

Part of the Wilbur D. Kennedy photograph album containing six hundred and five (605) black-and-white photographs, as well as a few pieces of ephemera, circa 1917-1919. The photos trace Kennedy's military career from his infantry training in the United States to his service in France during World War I and post-war service in Germany.
