Album One from the Nancy Harkness Collection of World War I Photograph Albums, circa 1914-1919. The album contains 73 black-and-white photographs of various scenes in Europe during and just after World War I. Images feature group and individual shots of American servicemen and a few women staff and/or spouses, including the Air Service's 4th Corps Headquarters at Sinzig, the 12th Aero Squadron at Koblenz post-war, and the 4th Photo Section; a decoration ceremony at Koblenz for the 12th, 91st, and 94th Aero Squadrons; American prisoners in Germany, German soldiers and officers (copy/souvenir photos); hangars, airdromes, and aircraft such as German zeppelins, Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 scout planes, Salmson planes, SPAD, N.C.3 and N.C.4 observation balloons; American and German aerial reconnaissance photos; battle scenes and aftermath including artillery, ruined buildings and villages, dead soldiers, downed aircraft, aerial views of barrage and prison camps; and scenic views of Trier and Koblenz including churches, Stotzenfels Castle, Roman ruins, and other notable sights. Identified locations include Trier, Berlin, Sinzig, Koblenz (Germany); Amiens, Verdun, Toul, Pagny-sur-Meuse, Château-Thierry, Reims (France); Zeebrugge, Ostend (Belgium); Azores.

Please note that some of the photographs in this album contain graphic images of wartime casualties.
