Photograph of two Imperial Japanese Navy Aichi D3A Val aircraft in flight near Hickam Field during the Pearl Harbor attack, Hawaii, December 7, 1941. Photo was taken by Lee Embree from a Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress attempted to land at the field.

Inscription: "(12-7-41-8:30A) A.C. Photo by Sgt. Lee Embree."

Typed caption glued to verso: "#4—Hickam Field, Hawaii. Dec. 7, 1941. The same two Japanese aircraft as shown in photo #3, after strafing our aircraft from the rear, pass on toward Pearl Harbor or Hickam Field. This was our third attempt to land at Hickam Field and our last, because we were very low on fuel. This and photo #3 are said to be the first aerial photographs by the United States at the start of our involvement in WWII. Photo by---S/Sgt. Lee R. Embree, 38th Reconnaissance Squadron, USAAC."
