Inscription on verso: "Hickam Field, Hawaii."

Typed caption glued to verso of duplicate photo: "#4--Hickam Field, Hawaii. Dec. 7, 1941. The same two Japanese aircraft as shown in photo #3 appeared under our left wing, diving and flying in the opposite direction. A third aircraft was in front of them, which I saw crash & burn. It was not possible to identify the third aircraft, however, I did manage to take this photo. I learned later that we were very low on fuel by now, so we had to land on this final approach and we did. This photo and #3, are said to be the first aerial photographs by the United States, at the start of our involvement in WWII. Photo by---S/Sgt. Lee R. Embree, 38th Reconnaissance Squadron, USAAC."
