Photograph album related to the life and flying career of Julius A. Barr, documenting his personal life and his time in China, circa 1932-1933. The album has a black and brown cover with a decorative dragon design and contains 514 photographs, five photomechanical prints, and five loose photos tucked into the album pages. The images depict family scenes; Chinese military personnel and scenes from the civil war between the Chinese Nationalist Party and Chinese Communist Party; historic sites in China; aerial views of cities and landscapes; friends and business associates; and various aircraft, both on the ground and in flight. Also included are snapshots from a trip to the United States, presumably to visit family, taken in Denver, Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming, as well as a menu for a "Sayonara" dinner aboard the S.S. President McKinley, dated January 16, 1932. Identified individuals in the photographs include Barr himself, Barr's wife Hortense, their daughter Jo Ann, and photojournalist H. S. "Newsreel" Wong. Some images have brief captions or identifications penned directly onto the prints, but many images are unidentified.
