The typed caption on the verso notes that the race was held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Wright brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk.

Typed on verso: "Winner of 'Round Manhat[cut off]. W. Luckey, in his 80 horse power Curtiss biplane, is shown finishing in the race around Manhattan Island held in honor of the tenth anniversary of the first flight made by the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, S. C. Leaving Oakwood, S. I., third Luckey overhauled the leading flyers before two thirds of the course was covered, and, flying faster than sixty miles an hour, returned to the starting point far in advance of his rivals."
