Audio recording of letters dictated by William P. Lear, Geneva, Switzerland, circa May 1960.

Abstract

This audio recording contains business letters dictated by William P. Lear to his secretary June Shields, recorded at the Lear home in Geneva, Switzerland, circa May 1960. Most of the letters focus on Lear’s business ventures in Europe, particularly the development of the SAAC (Learjet) 23. Additionally, in a lengthy letter to aviation journalist Ansel Talbert, Lear describes the benefits of the Decca navigation system, developed by Harvey Schwartz, and expresses disappointment that the U.S. government has not seriously considered the system. Other addressees include Dick Mock, Al Handschumacher, Ken Miller, George McTigue, and Jack Reese. Moya O. Lear is also briefly heard during the recording.

Note that several of the name spellings have not been verified and are thus rendered phonetically in this transcript.
