["Vin Fiz" railcar]

Description

Postcard (reproduction) of the "Vin Fiz" railcar that carried Calbraith Perry Rodgers's family, mechanics, reporters, and equipment during his transcontinental flight across the United States, circa 1911. This postcard was produced in 2011 for the 100th anniversary of Rodgers's flight in the "Vin Fiz" aircraft. Also includes a reproduction of the 25-cent "Vin Fiz" stamp and a special postmark.

Caption on verso: "One of the Erie RR cars that carried Ca Rodgers' wife (Mabel), his mother, reporters, mechanics, and spare parts during his famous transcontinental flight in 1911. Mabel was the first aerial post-mistress! 100th Anniversary ... / Pictorial Postmark - Philip S. Dockter / Have a Grape Day!"

Stamped on verso: "No. 173/500 / 100th Anniversary Station / First transcontinental flight across America – 1911 / 'I endure! I conquer!'"
