Typed caption glued to verso: "U.S. Army column advances through snow-covered mountain pass to strike Japanese on Attu. A column of U.S. soldiers, indicated by the solid arrow, advances through a snow-covered mountain pass on the island of Attu in the Aleutian chain. According to the observer flying in the plane from which this picture was taken, the Americans were marching to attack Japanese troops entrenched on Holtz Bay (cross) and obscured in the photograph by heavy clouds. The broken arrow indicated the general direction of the march. The Americans, after making two landings on opposite sides of Attu, trapped the Japanese in a pincers maneuver and quickly crushed enemy resistance. 12241--PPA. Not for use in Western Hemisphere.
