Space Collections

The Apollo 11 and 13 Checklists include two checklists: a "P30 manuever data card" from the Apollo 11 mission, 1969, and the "Apollo-13 LM-7 Contingency Checklist," from the Apollo 13 mission, 1970. The pages include handwritten notes by Buzz Aldrin, James Lovell, and Fred Haise. There is also a letter of authenticity accompanying each page, signed by Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11) and Fred Haise (Apollo 13). The letters provide in-depth information about the usage of and notes on each checklist.

The Deke Slayton ASTP Joint Operations Checklist consists of a single item: Slayton's personal copy of the "ASTP Reference Joint Operations Checklist," published by NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, March 31, 1975.

The Deke Slayton Mercury Program Notebook is a small collection consisting of a single item: a spiral bound "steno"-style notebook of handwritten notes by Deke Slayton during the Mercury Program. 

The Donald Viele Lunar Orbiter Collection contains photographs and documents primarily relating to the construction, launch, and mission of the five Lunar Orbiters. Some of the materials relate to the Viking Program and the Minuteman Missile launch, but the bulk of the collection relates to the Lunar Orbiter. The collection spans from 1950-2016.

This collection consists of a single item, the "First International Space Docking Certificate," also known as the Space Magna Carta. The document, which is in both English and Russian and is dated July 17, 1975, commemorates the first international crewed space mission when an American Apollo module docked with a Soviet Soyuz capsule. This official government document was signed in space by the two entire crews, including Thomas P. Stafford, D. K. Slayton, Vance Brand, Alexei Leonov, and Valerie Kubasov.

The Iva and Homer Metz Space Collection documents the careers of both Iva Metz and Homer Metz. This collection, which dates from 1928 to 2003, consists of certificates, membership cards, pilot rating book, flight logs, photographs, cacheted covers, and assorted documents related to the Apollo and Skylab programs. The collection records the early days of Iva and Homer’s flight careers and gives insight to their involvement in the space industry.

The Michael B. Gordon Mercury Photographs Collection is a small collection consisting of 11 4x5" black-and-white photographs depicting the preparation and recovery of the Mercury-Redstone 3 flight of Alan B. Shepard in 1961. 

The Michael Poirier Apollo 13 Recovery Collection is a small collection comprised of film footage and photomechanical prints relating to the recovery of the Apollo 13 spacecraft by the USS Iwo Jima on April 17 1970.

The Nordhoff and Dunnam Families Collection contains papers, photographs, and assorted ephemera spanning 1916-2012 and relating to Arthur Nordhoff (World War I pilot); his wife, Thelma Miller Nordhoff (Signal Corps); their daughter, Nancy Nordhoff Dunnam (WASP); and her husband James Joseph Dunnam (World War II Battalion Commander). While the bulk of the collection focuses on the military careers of the Nordhoff and Dunnam Families, a few space-related items are also included, such as an Apollo 14 mission patch and a replica of the Apollo 11 Lunar plaque.

The Pan Am First Moon Flights Club Membership Cards is a small collection consisting of two faux membership cards produced by Pan Am circa 1969-1970 for the "First Moon Flights" Club.

The Teresa Ann Jennings Skylab Photograph Collection is a very small collection comprised of two black-and-white group portraits of workers who built Skylab, circa 1969-1973.

The Willard P. Williams Lunar Orbiter Photograph Collection consists of three panels of black-and-white positive transparent film strips and two photographic prints. The film strips were received by Williams from the NASA Lunar Orbiter while stationed in Australia and document the various features of the moon.
