Title
[Bell AH-1G Cobra helicopter]
Description
Photograph of a Bell AH-1G Cobra helicopter of the 174th Assault Helicopter Company, parked at a military base in Vietnam, circa 1970-1971. The helicopter bears the shark-mouth nose art of the unit's gunships (the Sharks), which is based on the nose art for the Flying Tigers. A United States Army soldier in flight gear uses a camera in the foreground.
Caption from donor: "AH-1 Cobra Gunship of the 174th Assault Helicopter Company. Early in 1966, the unit officially asked for and received permission from the famous Flying Tigers of WWII to adapt their P-40 Warhawk's sharks-mouth paint scheme to the Shark's helicopter."
